Every webmaster wants to build links to their sites, be it for traffic or link reputation, or both, but not every webmaster know the difference between effective link building strategies and time-wasting link building strategies.

Basically, a strategy that you cannot keep up consistently, is a bad strategy. It fails in that it cannot be executed on a regular basis. And when it comes to building backlinks, consistency is key.

You can search the web for directories to submit to, or blogs to comment on. Those are strategies, but unless you can figure out a way to get yourself to do it on a regular basis, they are not good practical strategies.

You might as well say that you know exactly how to do SEO and build a ton of links, and you very well might. But if you cannot execute that plan, you are no better than the bum on the street that knows nothing about SEO or effective link building.
