Should I approve comments on my blog where people are advertising and they have a link to their site?
Posted by andy in Blog CommentingJerry the Love Berry asked:
Would that help me in anyway? If they are linking to a blog, would it be beneficial to put my link on their blog? Sort of like a link exchange?
Wouldn’t that make people want to leave my blog though?

Or should I only approve comments from interested readers?
I write an informative blog, but it leads to my commercial site for those who are interested.
Your knowledge on this would be much appreciated

Every link helps your site’s ranking. The more links you have to your site the better. Some are better than others. Links from .edu or .gov sites are very highly ranked.
Links from blogs are generally not highly valued, but they still will help.
If you’re trying to get links focus on ones from sites that have good quality content. You can look at the sites Google Page Rank, it’s a general guide to the value of that site.
The best links are hardest to get because those sites only link to other sites that have good quality content.
It depends on the comment.
If the comment is strictly advertising or just an automatic generic comment saying something like “Good article” followed by their link then no.
If however they make a comment that indicates they’ve read the article then yes.
The same is true for going to their blog and posting comments. Leave a comment after you’ve read their article with your link. However for this type of link exchange to work effectively the readers of the other person’s blog must be people who would be interested in your blog.
If you are building good quality backlinks to your blog, don’t waste page rank juice by approving every comment. Don’t approve what are obvious black-hat tactics to just spread their links around.
If the comment that person left on your blog doesn’t add to your blog or post or offer some kind of quality feedback or info, then you should consider it SPAM.
A lot of people use automated scripts to go around to other blogs and leave a little comment with a link to their site. The comment might say something simple like “Great Job!” or “I like your work!” SPAM
Leaving QUALITY comments on other blogs that are in the same niche as yours is a common form of SEO and it will help you. Especially if the blog has a high PageRank. In the form to leave a comment, there is usually a box to leave your website blog URL and that is the only place a link is usually tolerated.
Also, some poeple might tell you that leaving blog comments wont help you very much… Don’t listen to them! Some blogs have higher PageRank than websites do. Just remember, to get the full benefit, try to post most of your comments on blogs that are similar to yours.
